I Hate Change! This Attitude Gets You Nowhere
Very few people actually like
change. It’s uncomfortable and requires us to flex in ways that challenge our
patterns of thinking and behaving. While it’s completely natural to have an
adverse view or response to change, the fact is that this type of response will
get you nowhere.
You’ll find yourself stuck hating
change, feeling miserable, and making little to no progress in life. There are
several ways that a negative perspective of and approach to change can be
detrimental in your life.
Fear
Often, hate of change equates to a
fear of change. When we give in to our hate, we subsequently give into our
fears which can have huge consequences. According to Dr. Bruce Perry, research
details that when a fear response is activated in the body the part of the
brain responsible for risk assessment and action stops functioning. T
his means our fears actually limit
our ability to think logically. Additionally, fear can lead some people towards
harmful habits and behaviors like resorting to substance abuse as a coping
mechanism, insomnia, angry outbursts, isolation, and depression (Soleil, n.d.).
